Portraits

Child and family portrait sessions take place in your own home or somewhere you know well, where you and your family can relax and be yourselves. No rushing around, no waiting, no worries about how the children will react to unfamiliar surroundings. In my experience (as a photographer and as a mum), this works better than trying to get natural expressions in a studio, but if you like the studio look then it can be replicated with neutral backdrops at home.

If you're planning an outdoor photo session, the best light is in the early morning and early evening, when the sun is low in the sky – but I would never recommend choosing good light over happy children! For the best results, go for a time of day when everyone will be in the mood to cooperate. No delaying meals or skipping toddlers' naps. I speak from experience.

When you book I'll ask how many people the session is for, and the ages of any children. This is so that I can start planning for your session before I arrive. For a small family group, up to six people, allow about an hour for the session. This is long enough for most children to relax in front of the camera, but not so long that they get bored. If you have more people, or a baby, it's best to allow more time.

Photos are usually uploaded to a private online gallery within a week of your shoot. From there you can share them with friends and family and take plenty of time to choose your favourites from the comfort of your own home. I'll email you a link to the gallery and a password once they're ready to view.

The investment

A deposit of £50 is payable on booking to secure your date. This is credited back to you against the cost of your first image order, provided that you order within 60 days of your session.

Most of my customers choose to buy jpegs so that they can print and share them as often as they like. These can be downloaded from my website or delivered to you on a USB stick. I offer a set of 10 photos in this format for £150 or a set of 20 for £250. If you would like to keep more than 20 photos I can put together personalised packages to suit, or if 10 is too many, individual jpegs are available at £25 each.

If you prefer, high-quality prints are available from just £4.50 each. As a guide, the £50 deposit pays for any of the following packages:

Ten 7x5" prints

Six 10x8" prints

Two 12x8", two 10x8" and two 8x8" prints

One 12x12", two 8x8" and four 5x5" prints

Five 10x10" prints

Gift vouchers

A standard portrait session voucher is priced at £50, and entitles the recipient to a portrait session plus either two high-resolution digital images of their choice or a framed 10x8" print. Alternatively, this voucher can be used as part payment towards one of my digital or print packages (see above).

Flexible gift vouchers are available in multiples of £10, which can be redeemed against sessions, digital images or print products. The value is displayed on the voucher.
